ropsnobi: The rights of the people shall not be infringed.

Origin

Our name is a misquote of the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution. The deliberate misquote makes sense when put together with the Tenth Amendment. These two paragraphs are arguably the most important and most ignored paragraphs in the history of human rights.

According to common lore we now live in the information age. We take access to information, whether through books, newspapers, tv, radio, or the internet, for granted. This presents two dangers. Most obvious is the continuing efforts of various governments to limit the access of its citizens and others to the information they seek. Secondly and insidiously we must contantly battle to distinguish the difference between information and truth.

Take nothing for granted. Mark Clifton, in the book Eight Keys to Eden postulated that there are eight (or more) different ways to think. The first is to accept the word of Authority without question. That's easy and we all fall into that one all too often.
The second is to deny the word of Authority without question. That one's not too hard. We all learned to do that when we were two, and practiced it diligently all through our adolescence.
The third way of thought is to question the word of Authority. What if it's true? What if it is not? We can all strive to reach at least this level of thought about all of the issues that affect our lives. About everything.
